The buzz surrounding the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a strange statue. The mystery is finally answered. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Most missions can be solved in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
